Going for Gold!

We need “Garden Guerrillas” to make Barnes beautiful – everywhere! The BCA first sponsored the Barnes entry in the London in Bloom competition in 2014. It was awarded a Bronze certificate. In 2015 and 2016 we have achieved Silver Gilt, on our way, we hope, to Gold.

There are areas even within our leafy green Barnes, though, which are unspectacular and which, with the spur of competition, we could turn into something beautiful for the benefit of the whole community.

The judging covers: Horticultural Achievement, Environmental Responsibility and Community Participation. Within these categories are several criteria against which we are marked.

However, it’s about more than awards. Horticulture, gardens and plants play an ever-increasing and essential role in our fight against climate change. Greenery helps to reduce pollution and flooding, prevents our towns & cities getting too hot, Improves mental and physical health and supports bio-diversity.

We need volunteers to form a group of Garden Guerrillas to keep Barnes in Bloom. If you’d like to get involved, please contact Nicki at nicki@barnes-ca.org or Toby at toby@laurentresidential.co.uk.
